15. Overview of Pet central helps
a. Pet Central Helps is an organization where people can foster and/or adopt pets. They provide the highest possible quality of shelter for the animals that come through their doors. Pet Central Helps does their best to help the pets and owners in need so that they can stay healthy and together. They serve Bloomington-Normal Illinois and surrounding areas by rescuing animals in many circumstances. Some of their goals are conveniently helping people afford their pets when they cannot afford them and help when the pet is injured. They take in lost pets and put it on their website to try and reunite the owners with their pets. This organization helps pay for pet supplies, shelter, vet care, and much more. They make it convenient to find and contact them via google maps, Facebook, snapchat, address, email, and twitter and Instagram. Pet Central stays on top of their donation goals by presenting their goals in a diagram and showing what they plan on using the donations for. They allow the public to see where their money is going. Pet Central Helps puts pictures of their pets on their website with stories and tries to keep the public up to date on adoption events. They do not discriminate against race, sexual orientation, financial circumstances, or ethnicity for adoptions, fostering, volunteering or any other circumstance. They want to keep the animals in their family homes where they are loved and cared for by a family and not sitting in a crate no matter how well kept that crate may be. In every part of their website they keep bringing up the bond between pet and owner and explaining how significant that bond is. The organization tries to match all animals to pet owners so that they are not away from families; like a personality match for all animals without homes. They believe that all pet owners should be able to spay and neuter their animals and be able to continue to own animals.
16. Address a problem or social issue your first choice organization deals with. Where do they need help? Here you will probably need to do some research to help explain the issue (make sure you cite your sources). This should be about 500-700 words.
A problem that the Pet Central Helps deals with is the taking in of animals that do not have homes anymore. Poverty, short term emergencies, illnesses, lack of affordable and/or accessible vet care, and a shortage of pet friendly housing can conspire to force even the most devoted pet owners to relinquish a beloved pet to a local shelter or rescue group. Animals all over the world are affected by these issues and Pet Central Helps strives to help animals find a safe and loving home. They believe in finding homes that are beneficial for both the pet and the owner. They need help in finding certain homes for animals they take in to live in. There are always animals out there that need a home and they can always use help to keep finding more homes to support all the animals.
They are a nonprofit organization and have donations that go towards specific goals they already have picked out. Pet Central Helps needs funds to help them reach their goals. They show their donation amount, what each goal is, and how much money is needed to reach that goal on the home page of their website. Right now, they are getting their funds through donations, adoptions, and grants. They have achieved large dog kennels, and their next goal is small dog kennels at $43,900.00. The third goal is dog isolation areas at $46,317.00 and then recovery areas at $49,420.00. Fifth and sixth goals are cat towers at $61,210.14 and $67,383.10. The seventh goal is a cat isolation area at $74,321.10. Eighth goal is a grooming room at $80,526.10 and last goal is PermaFloor Granite System at $100,973.98. (Found on their homepage at www.petcentralhelps.org) and their facebook page. They always need help fundraising money because there can almost always be an improvement that they can make for their facilities or for the animals. Fundraising is a major key to keeping the organization alive and they can always use volunteers to spread their messages and values to get people from all over to help them out.
Another issue Pet Central Help has is knowing if the person adopting the pet is a hoarder or a responsible animal rescuer. The problem with this is that if a hoarder were to adopt a pet it can be harmful to the pet. That means the pet can be living in a bad environment without food, water, etc. This can be fatal to the animal that is living under these terrible living conditions. Under law requirements they are not allowed to inspect the adopter. Pet Central Helps supports agencies such as animal control and law enforcement that help the prevention of hoarders adopting animals that they will not properly care for.
Their way of communication is very limited and does not seem to help groups like ours who want to offer help to the organization. The only way of communication is an automated emailing system, that does not seem to work after a week of no reply from after trying to create some source of communication.
17. What would your team like to do to help combat this problem / issue? Here is where you connect your plan to fulfilling a need of the organization.
Fundraising and bringing awareness to people about Pet Central Helps. Videogaming, puppy chow fundraiser (different flavors), maybe an event with the animals (most likely at a pet shop). Food fundraiser. Go fund me page.Dog fashion show. Market and raise awareness about, Pet Central and hoarders., Reading with dogs. Posters and flyers.
18. What are your three SMART goals? (First goal is $100/person x # of people in your group. The other two are up to you).
1. Raise $ 700 for Pet Central Helps. 2. Each person has at least one fundraising event as their own idea. 3. Everyone participates in the fundraisers coordination and the events held by the group members.
19. What is your Plan for achieving these goals
Have effective meetings that plan out events and ideas properly and fully. Advertising events and communicating with Pet Central Helps early to set the fundraisers up (if needed). We have a couple different ways to raise money with some help from the dogs to show off the dogs that are in need of adoption. We will start off with something small, like selling puppy chow. Another way is by hosting a doggy modeling show. We plan to set up deadlines for meeting the goals and using proper advertising via social media and also through handouts to notify others about our goal and ideas.
20. What is your ‘rough’ timeline for achieving these goals?
Begin March 1 through May 1. That is eight weeks, so $100 per week earned puts us over our goal. Aim for one event a week unless multiple events can take place in the same week.
21. What potential problems do you anticipate?
Not raising $100 per fundraiser, one of the fundraiser ideas not getting fulfilled or approved. Having a difficult time getting people to attend the fundraiser which can result in us not meeting our money goal. Not advertising our fundraisers properly or communicating with Pet Central Helps effectively.
22. What is your fallback plan? What is your “point of no return” date for implementing the fallback plan? (ex: “if we have not achieved 50% of our goal by midterm, we will switch to Plan B.”).
Plan B: Supplementing with volunteering at the shelter and helping any way we can. Point of no return: the midpoint of the project (middle april?). If we do not reach $350 by the midpoint, start involving plan b.
23. Who did not contribute to plan?
Everyone participated and contributed to answering the questions and finding the answers.

Allison Price is recorder and is in charge of the minutes and agendas. She has helped with the puppy chow idea and provided some resources and connections for the cause. Has also reached out to other friends of some influence to help advertise our go fund me. Also has been the main communicator to outside sources overall. Lasean Johnson is the treasurer and in charge with keeping track with all money made to help Pet Central Helps, and such as, helping with future sells with puppy chow, and other events. Patrick Hayes is the historian and is in charge of all the groups artifacts they have. For contributing to the role, he doesn't have much except the digital items and he's still waiting to grab the advertisement papers the group has. For the primary goal and secondary goal, he's only contributed to ideas.
On a scale of 1-5 (1 meaning “not at all” and 5 meaning “definitely”) do you feel your team meetings are productive:
Definitely
What will you as a team do to make your meetings more productive?
Keep distractions minimal, come prepared and organized, stay on topic, work ahead, and use the whiteboard.
How would you grade your group’s progress to date: (Effort is commendable, but focus on what you've actually accomplished)
B
Provide a rationale for this grade by citing specific team accomplishments or problems:
We have not done the puppy chow event yet but it is going to be done Thursday March 29th. We have raised money and spread information about PCH. We
wish to be farther along in the project at this point.
What changes will you make to your team’s plan / habits / timeline based on this assessment? How are you going to revise what you’re doing to to help you achieve your goals?
Plan more puppy chow fundraisers and work more on the modeling event.
Is there anything else you'd like me to know about your team, member involvement, and/or your progress?
We do not really need to change our goals because we were realistic in the beginning.
